[Review] HYOLYN live in Los Angeles

On March 19th, South Korean Superstar Hyolyn successfully finished up her two solo showcases marking her debut in the US. Despite debuting with the widely loved girl group SISTAR in 2010, Hyolyn has taken this next big step in her career with solo opportunities. US fans anticipated to see full length sets live, as she is famously known for her mind blowing vocals. Presented by Starship Entertainment and Transparent Agency, Hyolyn concluded her tour with a sold out show at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Anxious and excited fans lined up outside the venue counting down the hours to showtime. Some lucky fans were able to snag limited meet & greet opportunities with Hyolyn herself. Fans held gifts to give to her while other rehearsed things they would say when finally meeting their idol. Once inside, Hyolyn enthusiastically met all her nervous and ecstatic fans and continued with photo sessions.

The night started off with DJ Eman pumping up the crowd. Most popularly known as  L.A.’s Power 106 radio DJ, he is nationally listened to by millions of listeners everyday. DJ Eman has also been successful outside of the radio as he travels across the world to perform at various venues and works along side famous artists such as Mariah Carey and Far East Movement. Throughout his time on stage, he constantly played hot songs that did not fail to make people dance and sing along.

Next to take the stage was Lijah Lu, an emerging songwriter, singer, musician, producer and independent recording artist. He is popularly viewed on YouTube and has even participated as a Top 20 semifinalist on American Idol Season 12. Based in LA’s 626 area, Lijah wowed the crowd with his smooth vocals and his blend of pop and rnb style.

K-Pop violinist Jun Curry Ahn took the stage next and was greeted with loud cheers. As a popular YouTube artist, many people in the crowd immediately recognized him and anticipated his impressive performance. Fans swayed and sang along as he performed a variety of songs such as an OSTs from Goblin and Moon Embracing The Sun to K-POP hit songs like Big Bang’s “Loser.”

Finally, the main performance the night was set to start. Fans screamed at the top of their lungs once vocal goddess Hyolyn stepped onto the stage. After greeting her rowdy audience, she wasted no time by blowing everyone away with her latest single “Paradise.” Her flawless vocals and sexy dance moves definitely kicked off the night with a bang. Adding on a twist to classic songs, she then performed remixed versions of the songs “One Way Love” and “Ma Boy.”

Later on throughout the night, Hyolyn took a break from her high energy songs and slowed down with the song, “Love Like This.” In contrast to the previous upbeat songs, this R&B track allowed her to show another dimension of her voice.

The crowd swayed as she wowed them with her solid yet smooth voice. Shortly after, she continued to pick things up and brought back the energy. Hyolyn ended the night with performances of SISTAR hit songs, “I Swear” “Touch My Body” and “Shake It.” Die-hard fans in the crowd did not fail to sing along to every single word. Hyolyn showcased her top notch fan service throughout the entire night. Making sure to tend to all her fans, she would dance to every corner and end of the stage. Fans would swoon as she sang and pointed at lucky individuals.

Not losing momentum, Hyolyn made sure to end the night confident and strong. The roof was sure to blow off as she belt out to “Bang Bang,” a famous and vocally powerful song by Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande.
